Curriculum Offerings

Meigs Magnet School is a school of choice, offering in-depth instruction for academically gifted and talented students. In addition to traditional core studies, students have an opportunity to take P.E., art, drama, and music at Meigs. Sixth and seventh graders rotate these throughout the years. Band, strings classes are available to students in grades sixth through eight.

For the students' eighth grade year, students may audition for advanced classes in art and drama. Advanced related arts students attend these classes all year. Students may also take Spanish to earn a foreign language high school credit. High school credits are also offered in physical science and integrated math.

Enrichment expands learning opportunities even further to explore interests and free play.

High School Transitions

Middle school students and their parents begin to consider which high schools would best meet their needs. MNPS has many high school choices that are available to students - something for everyone.

While Meigs has an automatic pathway to Hume Fogg if qualifications are met, there are other options for students to consider. For example, Big Picture High School allows students to participate in an internship program at least twice a week.

At Middle College, high school students can attain both a high school diploma and an Associate's Degree from Nashville State Community College in four years. Many of the zoned schools offer Honors and Advanced Placement courses as well as academy classes based on students' career interests. All high schools have school counselors who can assist students with college and career planning.

In the fall, the School Options Office sends home a school choice booklet that shares the option to choose the high school that best fits students' needs by submitting an application. To assist students with their decisions, information and video links are provided below.
