Public Transportation

WeGo bus services are an excellent transportation choice that fosters independence and responsibility.

Students attending School Options middle schools ride for free with their student IDs. Special buses to and from WeGo Central drop off students at the school before 7:45 a.m. and pick them up in front of the school at dismissal.

Magnet school students are using buses in your neighborhood and all over town. Want to try it?

  • When you think your child is ready, ride with them for the first time.
  • Refer to the WeGo network map to determine your nearest services.
  • Find a bus buddy on the Meigs PTO Carpool Connect Facebook group.
  • Map your times using The Transit App or Google Maps Transit Directions. Your family will be at ease with the process in no time.
  • Look for our Try the Ride Event organized in the Fall to meet bus buddies. The date will be announced on a First Day Folder flyer.

WeGo Policy on Student IDs

  • Your registered student ID serves as fare and parent permission.
  • Registration for WeGo is done by the School Secretary, Mrs. Forrest.
  • Look out for forms at the beginning of the school year or contact Mrs. Forrest.
  • You have limited opportunities to replace the ID if your child loses it. $15 fines will be assessed to replace it.

Important Student ID Card Tip

IDs are issued within the first month of school, and are valid through September of the following school year. This is important to know because there is always a delay in receiving ID cards at the beginning of the school year. Hold on to last year’s card, so your returning child doesn’t have a “gap” with no ID fare card.

Fares

You will have to pay fares until your child is issued their ID. Cash fares are $1 per single ride for children, $2 for adults, exact fare only. It is always good to have two $1 bills as emergency bus money in the bottom of a backpack. Also consider downloading the Quickticket app onto their phone and setting up a virtual account with money in it.
